Broker's Comments

The Alan Buchanan designed Nantucket Clipper was always a bit of a rarity even when new, back in what might now be considered the halcyon days of British yacht production. Indeed she bears a strong resemblance to another yacht from that era and design board, the Halcyon 27, but with the addition of a pretty clipper bow forward to balance the extra stick aft. A cutter headed yawl was the result and a very handy seagoing rig it is too. An easily driven though narrow gutted hull form offers good sea keeping, easy handling and speed under sail. Internally the Nantucket Clipper and the Halcyon 27 offer the same accommodation which would be considered somewhat Spartan and cramped by today's marina dweller. These yachts were built to go places and comfort, always a relative concept, came second to safety and performance. Our example here is sadly showing her age and needs some upgrading to bring her back to 'pretty yacht' standard. Having said that she could be launched and used just as she is but she deserves better. At least a hull re-paint, some fresh running rigging and perhaps a new suite of sails? The rest could follow as finances and inclination allow.
