Approaching this Alajuela 38 you observe her graceful lines, the rudder and tiller with a large open cockpit with teak seating, extensive storage in port and starboard cockpit lockers and two propane tanks in lazarette.

Entering the salon via the companionway stairs, you notice the warm wood interior of the cabin. There are areas of repair and maintenance that need attention and which will give the new owner a sense of accomplishment and pride. The bronze port lights appear to be solid and each is a unique stained glass rendition of a sea shell or creature. The U-shaped galley is starboard with large icebox, which has been converted to refrigeration. A stainless steel sink has ability to run hot and cold water. Hot water is not operable at this time; source is engine heat. And has foot pumps for raw and fresh water. A gimbaled 2-burner stove and oven complete the galley.
The navigation station is to port, provides a very large working area for charts and storage for full-size charts within the table.
Access to the engine is behind the companionway stairs.
The saloon features large settees port and starboard, the upholstery is in good condition. A beautiful table, with two-drop leaves would accommodate guests comfortably for meals. An oil lamp graces the area above the table, adding to the air of charm of the boat. The master stateroom is forward and separated from the salon by a door. The ensuite head is to starboard. The stateroom has a large double v-berth, a large overhead hatch, a small settee, a hanging locker and plenty of drawer storage.
Teak and holly floors throughout and warm wood interior. There appear to be areas of minor water intrusion above the companionway and at the port vent.
Head is a Wilcox Crittenden manual pump. The holding tank plumbed to be part of the water system. It has plumbing to support the septic system as a holding tank as well; reportedly there has never been any contamination of the fresh water system.
Owner has an Espar diesel heating system ready to be installed.

Comentario del broker

The Alajuela 38 was introduced when the "world-cruising" boom developed in the early 1970s. The builders designed and engineered a boat that earned acclaim for its sturdy construction, its beautiful and traditional lines, and its sailing characteristics. Named one of the "best boats to buy or build" by Ferenc Mate, and displaying remarkable longevity these boats are much-sought-after by knowledgeable cruising sailors.

This 1977 Alajuela 38 speaks of classic comfort, beauty and warmth the moment you board. She's cutter rigged with a main sail, headsail, drifter and jib. The current owner has owned her for 20 years and is ready to sell due to moving into another "season" of life. She will benefit from one's attention to regain her solid beauty; the interior is clean and has unique touches. A visit aboard is sure to ignite dreams of casting off lines and leaving port far behind.
