I’ve seen a couple of good articles about living on a canal boat recently; and we shared them on our Facebook page. This is Money did a great breakdown of outlays and overheads, how to get a loan and what moorings can cost. They featured a young couple who have just bought a 56 foot narrowboat to liveaboard. The Express and Star published a story about a couple with a young baby setting up home on a narrowboat at Norbury Junction.

If you’ve already done your research and got your budget in place then we have several boats suitable for living aboard here at Boatshed.

Wide Beam Houseboat

This would make a lovely liveaboard (pictured). The boat has a large and bright interior including a beautifully fitted galley. This is certainly living aboard in style. Even if this is beyond your budget you may enjoy browsing all the pictures anyway. Check out the double bedroom with doors opening onto the front deck.

Jan says, “Bright and airy, this boat will rival the comfort displayed in many properties as just a fraction of the price.” (£120,000)

Narrowboat 50ft Cruiser Stern

Entering this boat from the cruiser stern with a good pramcover you’ll find the bedroom cabin with a double bed. The Aldi gas boiler provides central heating and the bathroom has a toilet with Vac flush and shower. The galley has a four burner gas cooker, fridge and storage and the front cabin has a solid fuel stove. On the foredeck there is an unusual, conservatory style, solid cratch, lovely for chilling out and looking at the water up ahead. There are 3 berths with 1 double and 1 single.

Jan says, “This is a superb liveaboard boat, comfortable and well fitted. Good paintwork , and new stove.”

This 50ft narrowboat has recently been reduced to £27,500

Narrowboat 36ft Cruiser Stern

If you’re on a budget but still in love with the lifestyle then make yourself comfortable on a smaller, ‘vintage’ boat. This fantastic small cruiser was built in 1979 and is still going strong.

The interior is beautifully refitted in varnished timber and is a real labour of love. There are two cabins, one foreward and one aft, each with two sofas convertible to beds, and storage underneath. There is a well laid out galley kitchen and a shower and toilet to either side of the central passage with doors across to create full width bathroom. There is also a beautifully appointed cratch with padded seats.

Phil says, “This is a beautifully fitted boat and would make an excellent cruiser for a couple. Light construction and a reliable engine make for very easy handling.”

This boat is just £12,950 and offers on the asking price may be considered.
