Despite the early spring and a (so far) non-existent 'summer', Boatshed London has had an incredibly busy year.
Following my earlier blog about How to Sell a Boat on the Inland Waterways I thought I’d share a bit more about who we are at Boatshed Grand Union.
The following article is by our good friend and top boating lawyer, Hannah Cash. As well as being a leading authority on the legal aspects of buying a boat, Hannah has lived aboard Katherine of London (which we have for sale here) for a good few years, so is equally well versed on the practical aspects of the live-aboard lifestyle. Over to you, Hannah . . .
It hasn’t escaped anyone’s attention that we live in very different times and we are being bombarded with news from all directions about some sort of crisis somewhere – usually financial.
Looking for a live-aboard in London? Check out this super-duper 20m Dutch Barge with a superb West London mooring.
This is the sort of classic motor yacht you could imagine moored off St Tropez or cruising round Capri in the 1960s with a couple of starlets aboard. These days, however, she has a rather quieter existence in London Docklands as a simply stunning live-aboard.
We’re all very excited about the PSP Southampton Boat Show and the Boatshed stand at the show.
Come and meet the Boatshed.com team at this years PSP Southampton boat show.
The government is offering councils financial incentives to allow more moorings for houseboats on waterways.
This fishing vessel has been tastefully converted into a superb home, where the current owner has lived for the past four years. The attention to detail is, as Wayne Rooney would say, “gobsmacking” and the boat has all the trappings of a contemporary home whilst retaining all the original features and character. The photos really don’t do her justice and this boat is a ‘must see’ for anyone looking for a Central London houseboat.
Due to an exceptionally busy summer, we urgently require central London live-aboards in the £30-£60,000 price range. Such boats are highly desirable and Boatshed's unique marketing approach means that they get snapped up quickly. Wooden boats, steel boats, GRP boats, narrowboats, barges, motor cruisers, sailing yachts . . . if she has a residential mooring, we can sell her!
Built in 2007-8, this Euroships design Luxemotor lies on a residential mooring in a small, private marina just off the Thames in West London. She represents a great combination of traditional and contemporary design and fit-out and still has that ‘new boat’ feel.
SaveKEMP is an East-End action group whose call is to protect the only large, safe green space between Tower Bridge and the Isle of Dogs. And Boatshed London is right behind the campaign (after all, we do live in Wapping!).
What are the most common mistakes that people make when choosing and buying a yacht? Here are the top 5 don'ts to be avoided when investing in a yacht purchase. Many thanks to Duncan Kent for putting this article together.
The 2012 Olympics will bring millions of visitors to the UK - and most of them into central London. The transport implications of this will present a logistical nightmare for the organisers, who don't really seem to have got their heads around how to deal with water-borne visitors.
The Boatshed conference 2011 was a great success. Two days spent in and around Portsmouth Dockyard as well as Boatshed HQ in Gosport; with lots of lectures, group meetings and workshops. Approximately 30 Boatsheds came to the event, travelling from destinations across Europe and even as far as Phuket in the Far East.
Three words sprang to mind when I first saw this boat: huge, cool and wow! This is a truly delightful Dutch barge in a great location. She has it all - accommodation for eight, beautiful and well planned living space and bags of room for those who enjoy a bit of outdoor living. The living space is arranged on two levels and could be easily re-configured to the new owner's specification.
Here's a useful article by Marin Pittilo, yacht surveyor from Maple Marine . . .
